infectionNet began as a reference site for students studying medicine. It has since evolved into a reference site for medical professionals and infectious diseases, but also includes some interactive features.

infectionNet is built on WordPress, which matches the open nature of the site itself. The platform provides numerous features for laying out a site, populating it, and ongoing management. Custom content types have been used throughout, as well as custom taxonomies for classifying certain similar content. There is of course a blog component which is used to highlight recent news as well as site additions. As to user interactions, there is a discussion forum, the ability to ask questions of people behind the site, surveys, and newsletters.
