Last year, I posted a list of technical books I wanted to read, as part of my plan to expand and improve my skill set.
Out of that list, I read and reviewed seven books, plus two others that had not been planned at the time. They are, in order of review:
- Don’t Make Me Think!
- jQuery in Action
- Professional Refactoring in Visual Basic – extra
- Pragmatic Unit Testing in C# with NUnit, 2nd Ed.
- Web Form Design
- The Art of Unit Testing – extra
- Test-Driven Development by Example
- Clean Code
- C# in Depth
On the whole, not too bad. Seven out of twelve, plus two extra. The books I read covered a variety of topics, and helped me change the way I did programming work in the last year.
In keeping with the theme, I am posting a list of books I plan to read this year. Some of these are leftovers from last year, and so are likely to be read sooner rather than later. I also have some new books on the list, based on what I want to be exploring. I decided to make a list of ten this time, to give myself some wiggle room on the goal, and to allow for additions during the year.
This year’s list follows, in alphabetical order:
- Code Complete
- Designing the Moment
- Designing Web Navigation
- Designing with Web Standards
- Head First Design Patterns
- IronPython in Action
- Learnng Ruby
- Microsoft .NET: Architecting Applications for the Enterprise
- NHibernate in Action
- The Productive Programmer
Here’s hoping I do more reading this year!
