It’s official: del.icio.us is new again!
I’ve been using del.icio.us for online bookmarking for some time now, and enjoy the convenience of accessing my bookmarks from anywhere with web access. The site worked well, although it seemed a bit slow sometimes, and wasn’t the prettiest site I had visited.
The most immediate change is that the service is now based at delicious.com, as it is a bit easier to spell than del.icio.us. Going to the old URL will get you redirected to the new one. The name of the service has been changed as well – it is now just Delicious, which will save some confusion over where the dots should go! The site has a new interface, both on the front-end and the back-end. Searching is also faster than it was before.
Despite the URL change, all links and bookmarks should still work.
The overall layout of the pages is the same, but they are much more attractive-looking, thanks to the improved colour scheme and imagery. The way interface elements have been placed makes the site easier to use, allowing you to add and search links faster than before.

The delicious homepage
The official news page (linked above) also has a short video which highlights the changes made to the interface – it is interesting to watch! The What’s New page also has some useful information on the changes.
I really like the look of the bookmarks page – it is clearer and more intuitive than it was previously. Just below the username (the blue tag) is a little widget to control the amount of information being displayed about your bookmarks. The minimal setting shows just the titles of the bookmarks, along with the edit/delete links and the saved count. The medium setting shows the tags for the bookmarks, below each one. And the full setting also shows the bookmark URL and description. I like this feature, giving the user a choice!

Bookmarks on delicious
In the text box next to your username, you can type a tag to search for. If there are results, a visual “tag” is added to the tag line, and results are displayed.
Typing a tag to filter bookmarks
The tag line changes to show which tags are being used as filters:
The css tag is a filter
You can filter on multiple tags…
Css and layout tags are filters
You can remove filter tags by clicking the X next to the tag name. The tag line and results are updated accordingly.
Overall, I think the upgrade is a good one. The speed, appearance, and usability improvements are excellent!
